Laidback London was founded on the principles of creating a brand that would produce their products the old fashioned way by hand using some very traditional techniques. They wanted their products to provide their customers and retailers with a timeless and unique piece of art that would last and wear better as the years pass. Along with those creation ideas, they wanted to build an infrastructure that would create jobs and provide sustainable incomes for their workers while preserving the skills and artistic abilities.
The work they do has continued to make a positive social and economic impact that continues to empower their communities while providing hope, opportunities and education for future generations.
By keeping the process of making these beautiful works of art handmade, it allows them to grow their workforce and create maximum employment. All of the leather used comes from a local, family owned tannery, which is hand dyed and sundried before it is cut by hand. The upper part of the sandals is then embellished by hand with tiny colorful beads. It is a technique that symbolizes the traditions of the several local tribes. The beading process is unlike any other; it is a painstaking method of sewing every fourth bead directly onto the leather. This method can take one person a half a day or more to embellish two pairs of sandals. These beautiful sandals have become Laidback London’s signature line and provide their customers with a handmade, authentic feel.
